A Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) battery is simply a lead-acid battery in which the electrolyte has been immobilised in order to recombine hydrogen and oxygen. It has a sealed construction with pressure release valves to prevent gases from escaping, It is this which gives it its name. Because the electrolyte is no longer in a fluid state, due to either being mixed with silica powder to form a gel or absorbed into a finely textured glass mat, the gases produced are not free to form bubbles and rise to the surface of the electrolyte. Instead, they are trapped in the immobilised matrix and forced to travel to the opposite poles by the pressure gradient produced when on charge. In a free liquid, this would be impossible.
A VRLA battery or a Valve Regulated Battery has the acid immobilized either using AGM Separators or Silica Gel. In a flooded lead-acid battery, the acid is free inside the cell & there is some amount of water loss due to the natural reactions inside the battery. Much of the water is trapped & returned back into the cell by using special ceramic vent plugs. There are advantages & disadvantages to both types of batteries. Choice of battery type is decided by the usage application.

If you require specific testing to a specific standard, it can be performed in our extensive electrical laboratory. Please let us know while placing an order that you wish to have the tests conducted to which specific standard & our team will arrange for the testing at our works prior to dispatch which can be witnessed by you, in person.
Depending on the type of battery different accessories are provided & is usually specified in the offer. For eg in a battery bank of 48v 600Ah system, we provide standard accessories, take-off terminals & intercell lead plated copper connectors, passivated SS fasteners, MS modular racks, floor brackets.
We can, of course, provide you with additional accessories if required.

Yes, most of the batteries supplied by Microtex are offered in factory fresh charged condition. The first charge if done at the factory, ensures long life. If you prefer to receive the batteries in dry uncharged condition, we can do that as well.

C stands for current available for the number of hours in the specified C rating. For example, when a battery is rated for 600Ah @ c5, it means that the battery can be discharged for 5 hours by drawing a current of 600/5 = 120amps per hour.
Batteries that are used in traction & semi traction are usually rated at C5, batteries that are used in standby applications are generally rated at C10 & SLI Starter Lighting & Ignition batteries such as automobile batteries are rated at C20. Please read more about C Rating here
Tubular batteries need a tubular gauntlet around the spine cast grids or current-carrying members, encapsulated with the lead oxide active materials.
Woven gauntlets are superior & very robust compared to non-woven gauntlets. The woven gauntlets have better tensile strength in both directions, vertical & horizontal. Use of high-tenacity multifilament yarns provides elasticity & higher resilience. This ensures that the tubular gauntlet does not rupture in service, due to the high pressures exerted during the charge-discharge cycles when the active material expands by 150% or more.
Non-woven gauntlets, due to higher porosity provide about 15% more capacity, read less life in the long run. Their mechanical properties are no match for the woven gauntlets. Non-woven gauntlets are usually cheaper than woven gauntlets. It is safe to say that woven gauntlets are the preferred choice for long-life batteries.
Lead-acid batteries –
Handling: Batteries contain sulphuric acid. Please handle all lead-acid batteries with care. Flooded batteries can cause spillage if the battery is toppled over or tilted. Sealed Maintenance Free (SMF) Batteries can be carried in any orientation. No spillage can occur. Ensure no metallic objects are placed anywhere near the terminals of the battery.
Transportation: Terminals of the SMF batteries need to be protected to avoid shorting. Flooded batteries must be very carefully handled during transportation. Manufacturers usually take out some acid to avoid spillage during normal jerks & jolts experienced while transporting. You will need to replenish this before use. Ensure no open flames anywhere near the batteries. Take care not to short the terminals.
Installation: Before any installation of batteries is done, please read the battery manual provided to avoid any surprises. Always wear personal protective gear like rubber gloves, full shield goggles, apron & gumboots. Always use the correct rated chargers. Take care of the polarity while connecting the charger to the battery.
